Tracing Equines

Many horse owners and loaners have often wondered about the history of our equine friends, where they came from, what they used to be like, who their parents are. Its a minefield of questions and without help from others, it can often end up a lost cause in many cases.

Tracing Equines aim is to help you in the best possible way that we know how, by providing information of where to start looking. Once you have registered with us, there is an advert section where you can submit your adverts straight away. They will be published online after approval, and hopefully someone out there will recognise your horse or pony and get in touch with you.

Advice on what details to include in your advert and photo information can be found by clicking on this link

To see this months additions, please look in the " List of Horsey Adverts " section by clicking on Tracing Equine Adverts. Each of the pages listed will have New or Updated in red letters next to adverts that are new or have been updated this month.

We provide a valuable service in having a dedicated forum area for reporting stolen horses and equipment and are on the main Horsewatch mailing lists to receive information alerts. The "Horsewatch Contacts" page lists all known Horsewatch group details and police liaison details.

Stolen Horses or Horses/Ponies Sold or Missing Whilst on Loan

Would you know what to do if your horse got stolen?
... or who to contact if your horse got sold whilst on loan?

Many people do not realise there is a nationwide group called Horsewatch, who can help at such an awful time.

When a horse is stolen, owners often post messages on their favourite horsey forums asking members to look out for a stolen or missing horse.

But then what happens? If the owner is lucky, a Horsewatch volunteer (and yes, we all do this as a volunteer role) will see the post and contact the owner to ask whether they have filled in the form for the Stolen Horse Register. They may remind them to inform the police, and log the crime reference number.

However, if they are not so lucky, the forum message will go unnoticed and be forgotten about.

Here's how to change that and it involves a little bit of legwork from yourself.

Make sure you have the following written down somewhere ...
- Contact HORSEWATCH
- Contact POLICE
- Contact STOLEN HORSE REGISTER
- Contact TRACING EQUINES

Preferably, dig out the phone numbers you need now, do it today. Stick them in your mobile phone so they are to hand straight away. If you can't find your local Horsewatch or Police phone numbers, get in touch with us here and we'll find them for you.

If your horse does get stolen, by posting it on the Tracing Equines forum means that it will stay online for as long as it is needed. We've got posts about horses as far back as 2007.

The Stolen Horse Register requires you to fill a form in in order to put horses on their website. This enables them to gather all the information they require about your horse in order to log it as stolen. You do need a crime reference number so make sure you have reported your stolen horse to the police and got one.

- Contact MISSING HORSES ON LOAN

If your horse has been sold whilst on loan, please contact Katie at the above website and she can help you find out more information and hopefully trace your horse's whereabouts
