RW & HW Rural Watch & Horse Watch Bulletin - 9 March 2015

Alert from West Midlands Police - Log 1154 7/3/15

OVERNIGHT ON FRIDAY 6TH MARCH OFFENDER(S) HAVE GAINED ENTRY TO A SECURE BARN ON BARSTON LANE, BARSTON AND THEN GAINED ACCESS TO A STEEL SHIPPING CONTAINER WHICH WAS PADLOCKED, OFFENDERS HAVE USED GAS CUTTING EQUIPMENT TO FORCE THE DOORS AND STOLEN APPROX £40,000 OF 50 STIHL CHAIN SAWS, 10 X STIHL LEAF BLOWERS, 2 X STIHL HEDGE TRIMMERS.

The offenders entered the property from a perimeter gate some 100 meters to the rear of the main Farm buildings. This is a common MO that offenders use to steer clear of security measures around the farm buildings. Consider what security measures may be taken to prevent crime in this manner. Ie

Maintain perimeter fences & gates.

Trail Cams. (Stand alone mobile CCTV units positioned for maximum effect) Information on these cams may be gained on the Internet. Useful as an evidence-gathering tool or for Wildlife video capture!

Any information on the above please contact PC Andy Timmins by ringing 101 referencing above log number or phone the independent charity Crime Stoppers on 0800555111 where information may be left anonymously.

Rural watch & Horse Watch Bulletin – 7 May 2015

Alert from West Midlands Police:
Ref log 430 of 24/4
On 24/4 offenders entered a secure farm outbuilding in Knowle/Chadwick End and stole a red Honda quad bike, a green Kawasaki scrambler bike, power tools including Stihl saws, chainsaws and a generator. Offenders used wheelbarrows to escape via surrounding fields.

Also recently another farm in Knowle/Chadwick End had offenders on site where an outbuilding was targeted. The door was forced but nothing stolen. No one was seen.

How secure is your farm? Take the time to walk round your property and ensure you put measures in place to make it as difficult as possible for any intruders on site. Most security measures to consider are the same as any property home ie: alarms, security lighting, sensors.

Securing farm premises often require more innovative measures including using natural barriers and ditches along the perimeter, old plant / vehicles parked against barn/ outbuilding doors and access points, Wi-Fi sensors to trigger phones, property marking. Noisy animals! Including geese.

6 January 2016

Criminal Damage reported to horses kept in a field at Holt Lane Romsley Halesowen. A number of incidents have happened to the owners horses and property such as a young horse had his legs tied together with a rein and harness - no injuries just frightened.

Another horse had a rug slashed that he was wearing and another horse was believed to have been led out of the field into another field and in doing so caught his leg on barbed wire.

It is likely that this activity is personal towards the owner by persons required to leave the premises but please keep your eyes out and report anything suspicious to police on 101 or in an emergency 999.
