Police appeal after sheep worrying incident

Police are investigating an incident of sheep worrying which has occurred on the sand dunes between Seascale and Drigg, Cumbria.

The incident happened on Tuesday January 5th, when a farmer witnessed a dog out of control and worrying his livestock.

A short time later the farmer located a sheep with injuries consistent with a dog attack.

PC Jonathan Mann said: "This is unfortunately not the first incident of this kind for this farmer, and it has devastating effects.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to remind dog walkers that it is an offence to allow your dog to worry livestock and would urge people to place their dogs on a lead when exercising in open access land where livestock is present."

Stolen Honda Quad Bike

Police are currently investigating an incident of the theft of a quad bike that occurred overnight from a farm in the Lamplugh area of Cumbria.

During the incident a red coloured Honda Quad Bike was stolen.

Police believe that this incident occurred in the early hours of this morning between 2 am and 5:30 am. The Quad bike was stolen from an insecure outbuilding.

Police investigations into this incident are ongoing.

Any witnesses or persons with further information regarding this crime, are encouraged to contact Cumbria Police immediately on telephone number 101.

Stolen Trial Motorbike And Chainsaw

Area = Cumbria

Between 7pm on Saturday 16th January & 11am on Sunday 17th January 2016 an outbuilding on a farm in Tebay, Cumbria was broken into and items stolen.

These included a Beta Rev 3 red and silver trial motorbike and a Husqvarna CP 13" petrol chainsaw.

Did you see anything suspicious at the time or have you been offered these items for sale?

34 In-Lamb Ewes Stolen

Area = Cumbria

On Wednesday 20 January 2016 34 in-lamb ewes were stolen from a field in Torpenhow, Cumbria.

The ewes are all Texels and the majority have ear tag number UK100892. They have a red marking to left hip and green raddle on rear end.

Did you see anything suspicious at the time, or do you know where these ewes might be?

Stolen Galvanised Gates

Area = Cumbria

Police are investigating the theft of several galvanised field gates which were stolen from fields in the Outhwaite area of Mallerstang, Cumbria.

The theft occurred overnight on Tuesday 19th to Wednesday 20th January 2016. All of the gates were taken from road side field gateways and were in good condition.

Stolen Suzuki Quad Bike
Area = Cumbria

Between midnight and 7.45am last night (Monday 25th January 2016) a black Suzuki quad bike was stolen from a storage shed on a farm in the Cleator Moor & Egremont area of Cumbria.

A series of chains and padlocks were cut in order to gain access to the farm yard and building. Once inside the ignition was removed from the vehicle to enable it to be hot-wired.

PC 2229 Mark Ayton is asking local farmers and small-holders to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Cumbria Police.

Also should anyone have information as to the whereabouts of the bike or who is responsible for the theft to contact PC Ayton via 101, quoting log number CP-20160125-0036.

Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Unauthorised Tree Felling
Area = Cumbria

Police are appealing for information after unauthorised tree felling was carried out at Sea Wood, Bardsea, Ulverston in recent weeks.

The Woodland Trust have a policy of leaving fallen trees in situ and trees felled are also left in the wood to maintain the natural habitat. The only exception is when trees adjacent to the highway are likely to cause a hazard and are therefore removed completely. The Woodland Trust own Sea Wood, and South Lakes Tree Surgeons work on their behalf carrying out any maintenance or felling required.

Any person seen removing wood/timber from the area is committing an offence.

Any suspicious activity (vehicles/trailers/equipment) seen in the area should be reported immediately to Cumbria Police via 101.

Stolen Massey Ferguson Tractor

Overnight on Saturday 6 to Sunday 7th February 2016 a tractor was stolen from a farm the Kirkbride area of Cumbria.

The stolen Massey Ferguson tractor was later located. Did you see any suspicious activity in this area overnight, or do you know who may be responsible for the theft?

Sheep Worrying Incidents

There has been a recent increase in dogs worrying sheep on the agricultural land each side of the Shore road in Drigg, Cumbria.

Dog owners should be aware that although this is open access land it is grazed by livestock, and as such all dogs must be kept on a lead. Any dog found to be worrying livestock face the risk of being shot by the livestock owner or reported to the police. Any incidents must be reported to a local farmer.

If you witness any incidents please report to Cumbria Constabulary on 101.

Sheep Attacked By Dogs
Area = Cumbria

On Wednesday 24 February 2016 a Herdwick ewe was savagely attacked by dogs in the Eskdale area of Cumbria.
The ewe was due to have twin lambs in April and was left in this state after being attacked.
Do you know who's dogs may be responsible for this or did you see any dogs running free in the area at that time?

Stolen Honda Quad Bike
Area = Cumbria

Overnight on Sunday 13 to Monday 14 March 2016 a Red Honda 420 Quad bike has been stolen from Howgill in Sedbergh, Cumbria.

The quad bike is marked with LA8 OBT on the front left mudguard.

Did you see anything suspicious in this area overnight?

Please lock away your valuable items/machinery, out of sight, take the keys out and hide them away, do not leave them on show through a window. Park your vehicles up against buildings to prevent criminals easy pickings inside.

Suspicious Vehicle
Area = Cumbria

Today Thursday 24 March 2016, a suspicious transit van has been reported in the Shap area of Cumbria.

The vehicle is described as a silver transit van with signage on the side showing images of a quad/ride on mower with the words 'all sorts of machinery supplied'.

This vehicle has been in the Shap area of Cumbria at 2pm today. The occupant of the vehicle is described as an Irish male with blonde hair. He was offering to sell a diesel generator.

Has this vehicle visited your premises recently?

Thefts And Attempted Thefts From Farms
Area = Cumbria

Cumbria Police are receiving reports of thefts and attempt thefts recently from farms especially in the Allerdale Rural area but throughout West Cumbria.

Please be extra vigilant when storing your valuables particularly quad bikes, please leave them in a secure shed/outbuilding and please do not leave the keys in their ignitions.

To help the police with their enquiries incase of a stolen bike or equipment please make sure you have as much detail as possible ie.the vin number and/or engine number.

You can also secure your quad bikes by marking them with such products as Data Tag or Alpha Dot both of which can be researched and bought on the Internet. This would help the police when identifying a recovered bike.

If you have any information about recent thefts, suspect any suspicious incidents/vehicles/people or want to report a crime then please call 101. (This can be anonymous)
