SUSSEX HORSE WATCH

If you become a victim of crime…

Report it to the police as soon as possible.

In an emergency dial 999. You should dial 999 when life is threatened or people are injured, or of there is a crime in progress or an immediate police response is necessary.
For non-emergencies you can call Sussex Police (or your local police) on 101, or attend your local police station, then report it to sussexhorsewatch@gmail.com (or your local horsewatch co.ordinator)

Action in the event of a horse, tack or transport being stolen

If there is evidence the horse has broken-out and strayed, or there is clear evidence of a break-in, the police should be contacted immediately. Provide the police with an accurate description of the horse, and supply a recent photograph if possible, to assist in identification.

In the event of a theft of a security-tagged horse, the security company should be notified. Most companies have automatic procedures in place to ask auctions, sales and slaughterhouses to be vigilant.

It is advisable to extend the search as widely and quickly as possible. In addition to informing other yards and equestrian centers in the area, there are many websites listing stolen horses, which can be contacted. Register your horse stolen on http://www.stolenhorseregister.com/ and any other equine forums and websites you belong to.

If the horse is insured, the insurance company should be notified. Some policies assist towards the cost of search and recovery.

Inform the National Equine Database and update your horse’s record www.nedonline.co.uk and your horse’s passport issuing agency

If you have registered any serial marked equipment on www.immobilise.com update your account to flag the items as stolen.

Pass details of the theft to the companies you have used to microchip or security mark your stolen tack or trailer.

Equestrian premises and equipment should always be insured against loss, whether by fire, theft or (missing word)
