£20,000 stables burglary

Published on Tuesday 6 December 2011 14:00

A PROBE has been launched after a £20,000 burglary at a horse-riding centre.

Detectives from Peterlee CID are investigating after thousands of pounds worth of specialised saddles and other equipment was stolen from the Edenwell Equestrian Centre.

The raiders are said to have got in through a roller shutter door before removing a number of breeze blocks to get into the Castle Eden-based centre’s tack room.

Police say they then stole 19 saddles of varying values from £800 to £2,500 and of distinctive brands including Paul Jones and John Whitaker.

The thieves also made off with a £2,500 horse massage kit and expensive horse hair clippers from the site, just off the A181 near Wingate.

PC Brian Carter, of the Peterlee Crime Team within Peterlee CID, said: “It’s obviously been someone with specialist knowledge.”

He appealed for anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles at the centre around the time of the incident, overnight on November 25, or who may have been offered the equipment for sale, to call 0345 6060365 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
