STOLEN LANDROVER DOORS

Location - County Durham

Overnight on Wednesday 10 September two doors were removed and stolen from a Landrover Defender 110 parked next to a farmhouse in County Durham.

Since then we have discovered that the theft of Landrover Defender doors and bonnets is big business. Replacement doors cost around £1000, and they are relatively easy to remove.

Please stay vigilant and spread the word!

Between 3am and 6am this morning (Wed 17 Sept) thieves have broken into a locked barn in Willington, Crook, County Durham.

They have stolen a 1 tonne Thwaites digger which was on hire from Jewsons, and 5 gallon drum of red diesel

The thieves have cut the locked chain on the gate and cut the barn open, with what looks like bolt cutters, then dragged the digger out onto some sort of truck, possible with a hi-ab on it.

The thieves then left and drove towards Willington along the B6286.

Please call 101 with any information and spread the word!

LANDROVER DEFENDERS STRIPPED FOR PARTS

Location - County Durham

Do you own a Land Rover Defender? Police are advising owners to take extra care of their vehicles after thieves stripped body parts from two Defenders the night before last.

Sometime during Sunday night, 28th December or early on Monday morning thieves targeted a Defender parked outside its owner’s home in Gordon Terrace, Wolsingham and a similar vehicle parked in a barn at a farm in Stanhope (Bishop Auckland).

In the first incident they removed the driver’s door and the front headlights, but the items were left at the scene suggesting they may have been disturbed before they could strip other parts from the vehicle.

At the farm in Stanhope, situated just off the A689 in County Durham they managed to remove and escape with the bonnet, the driver and front passenger doors and the wing mirrors. This theft is thought to have happened sometime between 4am and 10.45am, when the owner realised what had happened and informed police.

Police suspect the thieves are deliberately targeting Land Rover Defenders for any parts of the vehicle which can be removed and sold on.

“If you own a Defender please check your security arrangements and do all you can to secure the vehicle,” said Det Con Tony Kent of the serious crime team in Crook.

“The thieves have clearly identified a market for these items, especially the doors. We are making enquiries in the area and would like to hear from anyone who might have heard of these vehicle parts being offered for sale.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
