POLICE are appealing for information after a horse was stolen from a field in north Durham.
The animal, a black Friesian mare called Tammy, was reported missing from a field at Lodge House Farm, Cornsay, near Lanchester , at 11.30am today.
A lock on the gate was damaged to gain entry to the field on Cowsley Lane, where the stolen animal was being kept with another horse. PC Lee Jackson of Durham Police said, the last confirmed sighting of the stolen horse, which is about eight years old and stands16 hands high, was at about 9am this morning.
He said: “This mare is a very valuable animal and is used to being transported in a trailer therefore if a vehicle was used to take her, she would have been happy to climb inside. “Her owner is devastated about her being stolen and has scoured the area searching for her. “I would urge anyone with information regarding the theft or the animal’s whereabouts to contact police.”
Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
