There has been a large amount of tack stolen from farm premises in Pattingham.

It happened sometime overnight Friday 21st/Saturday 22nd October when offenders forced their way into shipping containers before stealing the tack, saddles and bridles.

This is the second time in two weeks that these premises have been targeted so could you please warn all horse owners and residents in the area to be on their guard and to make sure their properties and tack are as secure as possible at all times.

Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the police.

From Staffordshire Horsewatch Several reports have been received from farms in Staffordshire regarding telephone calls purporting to be from Crime Prevention or Farm Watch and offering, for around £170, advertising space or publicity in a police publication. This is a scam and Consumer Direct has been alerted. Should you receive such a call, please do not agree to make any payment or provide the caller with any personal details. Please alert any farms that you may know to this scam.

Dear Watch Member,
This is a message for members of Horsewatch.
There has been some suspicious activity in the Radmore Lane area of Gnosall recently.
Overnight 4th/5th May horses kept in a paddock in Radmore Lane had mysteriously been moved to a stable block. Exactly the same thing happened again overnight Tuesday 8th/Wednesday 9th May and the owner has no idea who has done this or why.
Anyone who happens to be in the Gnosall area of Stafford and who sees any suspicious activity is asked to contact the police immediately.
As ever, could you all please take time to review your own security arrangements and make sure your horses and tack are as secure as possible at all times.

STAFFORDSHIRE POLICE: Report from Staffordshire Police on line..
Horse Owners Take Note

Over the last few days we have had several incidents of mane and tail plaiting, and tail cutting in several areas across the county. These areas are Ironstone Road, Cannock; Gorsey Bank Road, Hockley, Tamworth and Micklewood Lane Penkridge. Please keep in mind that even though the common perception is that horses are marked to steal in this way, we have no evidence to suggest this is genuinely the case – however it clearly shows someone has accessed the horses. If we had the amount of horse stolen that we have plaited manes we would have several each week. Please report suspicious activity on 101 or if offenders present 999. Many thanks

Information from colleagues in Staffordshire Police
from Warwickshire bulletin, 30 October 2013

Overnight between Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th October, four heavy-duty batteries have been stolen from goods vehicles parked at commercial premises in Wergs Hall Lane, Codsall. Offenders cut fencing to gain access and also took old batteries from a skip. The alarm activated on one lorry at around 2.05am but there were no witnesses.

Between 19-20th October there has been a spate of thefts of horse’s rugs from off horses or from stable premises in the Kinver and Prestwood area and on Tuesday 22nd October two males were disturbed attempting to entice horses wearing rugs to the edge of a field in the Penn Common area. During the past few days, bags of hay have been stolen from farm premises in Woodford Lane between Wombourne and Trysull and an old off-road car has been stolen from a lock-up at farm premises in the Swindon area. In Great Moor Lane, Pattingham, two pitchforks have been stolen from a shed in a field and between 22-23rd October, in the Codsall area, there has been one burglary at commercial premises where a number of bags of compost were stolen.

On the 22nd October at Shareshill a vehicle has been reported coming onto farm property with the occupants acting suspiciously and purporting to be selling boots. The same vehicle was reported tailgating into secure business premises in the Cannock area. The vehicle is described as a white coloured Mitsubishi pick-up, part registration DX63T…

At around 12.15pm on Sunday 27th October one male with Greyhound-type dogs was reported in fields near to the A454 and Pattingham. The man was driving a white coloured Peugeot van part registration RV08D… The same vehicle was seen in the Eccleshall area in August where the three male occupants and two Lurcher dogs were suspected of Hare Coursing.

At around the same time in Jenny Walkers Lane, just outside Perton, two males were seen walking with two Lurcher dogs and taking interest in looking into the fields. They were mud-covered and may have been in the fields. The men were picked up by a beige coloured Renault Megane vehicle part registration DN61P

This is a message for members of Horse watch regarding two incidents.
Between 6.30pm on Friday 25th and 9.40am on Saturday 26th October, 15 rolls of rubber matting edged with blue flex have been stolen from a horse’s field off the Stourbridge Road, Lower Penn. The matting rolls measure 4’ x 7’ each.
