there is also another scam where someone orders something from a catalouge, web site, or similar that you have not ordered, you then get a knock at the door saying it was sent to the wrong address you hand over parcel and a few days later get a bill for said item. I have only read this but I have not actually seen it happen for myself. But its just a warning to others.

Successful arrest of five Salcey Forest Café offenders

We are pleased to inform you that a long and protracted investigation into a spate of incidents at Salcey Forest Café has been successfully resolved and has culminated in the arrest of five suspects, all of whom have admitted their involvement in what amounted to 10 separate acts of burglary and criminal damage.

The string of mindless attacks on the premises began in January of this year and included attempted burglary and smashed windows. More incidents followed over the Spring.

In response, police stepped up patrols and forensic investigators began to collect evidence. Cameras were then installed and officers were able to obtain high quality footage of offenders. They were indentified, arrested and interviewed, and officers were able to link them to 10 crimes. Those arrested cannot be identified due to their age, but all five are local and were referred to the Youth Offending Team for final warnings. Read more

Just a quick reminder to everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious incidents. I have had a report of a fence being tampered with in the Raunds area. Nothing has been taken and they have been advised to report it to the police. It may help if you get to know your horsey neighbours so you know who is meant to be at the yards/fields/stables and who is not. If in doubt make a note and report it.

It looks like 2 Ifor Williams trailers in Hartwell have been targeted for spares, one losing rear light covers, the other it's partition and breach bars. Please check your trailers and where possible take removable items off, I heard a livery yard in Bedfordshire lost all their spare wheels off trailers?

THIEVES operating in Lambourn Berkshire/Oxfordshire area! Quad bikes, electric fencing and rugs have been stolen off horses backs over the weekend in this area. (Probably everywhere but a spate here!) Be a good neighbour and pass on any suspicious sightings - these kind of thefts are mostly organised about a week in advance I am told.

Thanks Vickie, but please be aware that many items are going missing in the South Northants area, including from Northampton to the Oxfordshire border. Our own dear PC had items stollen from her horsebox last week-end!

Crime and policing update for farm and rural contacts

A John Deere tractor stolen from a rural property in Chelveston Road, Caldecott last night (Thursday 17 November) has been recovered.

A tractor was stolen, but since been recovered, at a rural property in The Slips, Great Harrowden on Wednesday 16 November.

We have been working hard to stamp out rural theft across the county with some positive results such as the two tractors recovered within the last two days.

However, there has been a recent increase in the number of thefts and attempted theft of tractors these last few weeks. Tractors/Telehandlers/ATVs and trailers have also been targeted.

Please remember to keep your vehicles and equipment out of sight wherever possible, preferably somewhere which is secure and alarmed. Always secure your vehicle, even if left unattended for a few minutes as thefts of this kind are a common occurrence.

We are serious about tackling the issues around rural crime and we realise that thefts of machinery, vehicles and equipment can incur extensive losses and inconvenience and so we urge you to report any suspicious people or vehicles seen on or around their properties.

Anyone with information can call us on 101 or alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A young cow was found fatally wounded within its stable at a rural property in Kilsby, Rugby between midday Tuesday 22 and 10.30 Wednesday 23 November. Please be vigilant with your livestock checking them regularly and remember to vary your routines as to not become predictable.

During the evening of Wednesday 23 November, stable blocks in Lamport were broken into.

During the morning Thursday 24 November, a farm building in Stoke Albany was broken into. Various tools were stolen.

Over the past few weeks, the county has suffered a series of farm thefts. Items such as Ifor Williams trailers, quad bikes, chain saws, a caravan and workshop tools have been stolen. In several cases, there were warning signs such as wheel tracks across fields prior to the incident occurring.

We would like to remind farmers to remain vigilant and report anything which appears to be suspicious. Below are links to crime prevention information which offer advice on the best ways to protect your property.

Believed overnight on 30th Nov/1st December a cob had some of it's tail hair removed, believed cut with scissors at stables on the outskirts of West Northampton.

Between 19:30 on 30-Nov-2011 and 07:00 on 01-Dec-2011 in the area of Ecton a large quantity of electric fencing equipment has been stolen.

Between 16:30 hrs on 30-Nov-2011 and 09:30 hrs on 01-Dec-2011 an electric fence energizer was stolen in the West Northampton area.

In November there were 8 reports of electric fencing energizers and/or batteries/accessories being stolen across the county. Please mark these either by etching or using a marking product to clearly identify energizers and batteries were you can which can also deter thieves. If you can note make/Model and any serial numbers to identify your property to the Police if stolen as it will assist in recovery.
