Crime and policing update for farm and rural contacts

It has recently been reported that a number of guinea fowl were stolen from a property in Grafton Road, Slipton overnight 7 January.

Appeal for witnesses

We are appealing for witnesses following an incident at stables on a farm in Upton, Northampton, which took place between 6pm on Wednesday 25 January and 9.30am on Thursday 26 January.

Officers believe an offender gained entry to the stables and injured a horse, possibly using some sort of weapon. As a result, the horse sustained an injury to the shoulder.

We are appealing for any information in relation to persons seen acting suspiciously in the area at the times mentioned above, and also urging people particularly within the riding community to remain vigilant and to ensure the security of their premises.

Anyone with information please call us on 101 or alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Dear All, FROM CHERWELL VALLEY POLICE

Please see email below, regarding an email scam which is currently being circulated.

Many Thanks
Deborah

Deborah Hextall
Cherwell Watch Co-ordinator

Statement from Director of the 2011 Census, Glen Watson, Friday 27 January 2012.

Email Scam

We are aware that an email entitled 'Population Census: a message to everyone - act now' is being circulated, allegedly in the name of National Statistician, Jil Matheson. This email demands individuals provide further personal information, supposedly for the Census and threatens fines for non-compliance.

This email is a scam and a hoax. It has no connection whatsoever with the National Statistician, the 2011 Census or the Office for National Statistics.

We believe the links in the email could download malware to any computer where the user clicks on the links. This could put your personal data, including financial information, at risk.

Anyone receiving this, or similar emails, should delete them, not open any links and certainly not provide any information.

For more information on how to protect yourself from this type of threat, please see www.getsafeonline.org

If you wish to, please report receipt of any such suspicious emails to www.actionfraud.org.uk

ONS takes the protection of personal census information extremely seriously. Collection of census data was completed last year and no further requests will be forthcoming from the Office for National Statistics relating to the 2011 Census.

Public urged to report suspicious behaviour

Information sent on behalf of Northamptonshire Police Community Connect
(Please do not reply directly to this email, please use the Reply button at the bottom of this message)

The public are being urged to report suspicious activity as the force continues to clamp down on metal theft.

On 9 January 2011 a member of the public rang 101 to report that a Citroen van was in a lay by on the A5 at long Buckby and people within it were acting suspiciously.

On 17 January 2012 another member of the public rang 101 to report a similar van and people acting suspiciously in Kettering.

Officers then put an alert on the Police National Computer in connection with the vehicle. On 9 February 2012 the vehicle believed to be the same vehicle was stopped on the M6 by West Midlands Police and the driver arrested.

Sergeant Mark McDonnell, who is leading the operation against metal theft, said: "We know from speaking to business groups and individuals that people sometimes think it is not worth phoning the police with details of suspicious incidents, wrongly believing that nothing will happen. This shows that we do take these calls seriously and do take action.

“We would urge anybody who sees vehicles in any suspicious circumstances such as unsolicited 'touting' for scrap, to call the police on 101 immediately.”

WARNING TO ALL HORSE OWNERS, there has been a confirmed case of strangles in the area covered by Swanspool Vets...... this is a big area, so to narrow it down without naming the yard (it is their perogative if they wish to announce it) its very close to Kettering.

Update on Yard with Strangles.
Yard was confimed to have strangles 5/6 weeks ago
It was dealt with instantly.
All guidelines/procedures given by Vets have been followed meticulously.
No horses have been allowed off of the yard to go hunting or to shows e.t.c.
All horses have been checked and bloodtested.
There is not a single carrier of Strangles on this yard.
The yard owner has taken this situation very seriously and in 2 weeks time, the yard should get the all clear.
The owner of the yard would just like to let people know about the situation and that it has been dealt with promptly and professionally and to stop any speculation. The yard owner is very upfront about this unfortunate incident which could realistically happen to any of us.

If I have missed anything off of here, please forgive me.
