Re: Scottish and Southern Energy price rises - 15 October 2012

Ebico Ltd
Wednesday 22 August at 2:23pm
We are aware that our supply partner, SSE plc, has announced that its energy prices will be rising with effect from the 15th October 2012. These increases do not apply to Ebico customers. The wholesale cost of energy has risen over recent months and the costs of, both, using the energy networks and meeting the Government’s social and environmental targets are increasing. However Ebico remains committed to keeping our customers’ energy costs as stable as we can for as long as we can, and we have no plans at present to increase the prices of EquiGas or EquiPower.
We've been with Ebico for 11 months now for both gas and electric and are quite happy with them. There's only 2 of us here in a terraced house and we both prefer layers or fleecy items and blankets to sticking the heating on. We do put heating on sometimes though when it's really cold or wet. I think it's only been on a couple of times through spring/summer for some emergency clothes drying.

Website - https://www.ebico.org.uk/

EquiGas (name of tariff) costs 4.573p per kWh inlcuding VAT (4.36p per kWh excluding VAT).
EquiPower (name of tariff) costs 14.08p per kWh exc VAT (14.784p per kWh inc VAT) for the North West Region
There's no standing charges on either tariff so what you use is what you pay for. Brilliant for low users like us!

We're currently paying £15 per month for gas by direct debit, dropping down to £7 per month from October.
They did offer to put it at £3 per month but we felt this was too low and would rather by in credit a small amount than owe money

Electric is a pre-payment meter at £30 per month, normally £25-£30 but I prefer £30 so it lasts us the whole month
OH computer is on quite a lot, either playing games or downloading games overnight.
I tend to only watch the soaps and then I'm on my pc when not at work as well

EquiGas and EquiPower tariff prices are guaranteed until at least spring 2015 *
* *Subject to there being no marked and sustained increase in wholesale energy costs, network costs or new policy-related costs.

As of Nov 2013, EquiGas is 5.57 pence per kWh of gas used, includes VAT, no standing charge
EquiPower (north west region) is 17.91 pence (standard rate in pence per kWh), includes VAT, no standing charge

We got the bills through last night and the Gas direct debit is dropping down to just £10 per month. It's been quite mild up here though, no sign of snow.
I like the way they forecast the next 12 months ahead as it means I can budget to their figures and adjust my yearly bills budget as needed

Ebico customers to receive £12 electricity rebate

Link - https://www.ebico.org.uk/news#oct14rebate

We are pleased to announce that on, or shortly after, the 12th of October 2014, all Ebico's EquiPower customers will have their electricity accounts credited with the government electricity rebate of £12. The payments will reduce the cost of social and environmental programmes on customer energy bills.

At Ebico we have always taken the view that UK Government policy spending should be funded by general taxation, not through levies on consumer bills (for why, click here), so we are delighted that this has started to happen.

Customers who pay using Direct Debit and those who pay on receipt of a bill, will see the rebate displayed as a £12.00 credit on their subsequent statement or bill. Pay As You Go (prepayment) customers will receive a letter containing a voucher which they can redeem at any PayPoint outlet.
In addition, we are very pleased to announce that the rebate will also be paid next year. After that, we hope that the funding of government energy policy initiatives through general taxation will become the norm.

We've been in the new house for nearly 7 months now and are definitely feeling a difference between the two houses.
Old house - terraced in a built up area, gas boiler / CH / cooker. New house - semi detached in an open-ish area, gas boiler and CH
Cost wise, the electric has stabilised at approx £40 per month. The gas is taking some working out, we're paying £20 per month but had used £70 in a 6 week period over december / xmas / new year.
We've took steps to get it down a little by turning boiler down a notch, same with radiators and knocking the main temperature control down on a night as well. Hopefully it will make a difference

Anyway, Good News from Ebico ...

We’re reducing our gas price!

At Ebico we are constantly looking for ways we can save you money.

When we last cut prices in March last year, we promised that we'd keep monitoring all our costs and reduce prices again if we could.

So today we are pleased to announce that we will be reducing our gas prices, saving customers 3.9% or £28 per year on a typical gas bill*. This will apply to any customer on our innovative EquiGas tariff, which offers one competitive rate, no tie-ins or exit fees and zero standing charge. It will take effect from 30 April 2015.

We're passing on savings resulting from lower wholesale energy costs. Like all suppliers, our energy supply partner SSE buys energy at varying times and prices up to two years ahead of time in order to keep prices stable and protect customers from volatility in global markets. This means short-term movements don't have an immediate impact on prices, but long-term trends will eventually be reflected in customers' bills.

Now that we are in a position to pass on the savings, that's exactly what we're doing.

At Ebico, we're committed to offering fair, simple and stable prices over the long term, backed up by industry leading customer service. And don't just take our word for it; with an overall score of 81%, we were recently recognised in the Which? Customer satisfaction survey as one of the top three energy suppliers in Great Britain^.

*Based on Ofgem standard gas consumption of 13,500kWh per year; weighted average across all payment types and regions.
