USA - Big Dan, 17hh approx, palomino gelding

Post by Allaboardmyford »

17ish hh, palomino, TWH gelding, about 11yo, purchased in Vidalia, GA

Hi there. I purchased a 17hh palomino TWH, in June of 2015. He was advertised as 6yo but he ended up being closer to 10. He was also advertised in auburn, Alabama. The woman I purchased him from had little to no history on him and I hoped maybe SOMEONE in the world remembers him from somewhere. He was going by the name "Big Dan" at the time. Supposedly he was used as a scout horse on field trials. He has tons of GO and is incredibly sensitive to legs and the bit. He has a small star on his forehead, a scar on his rear right coronet band that created an indent all the way down his hoof wall. He also had a pale spot on his neck. He's had a bout with stifle lock, but it was a one and done type of thing, I'm guessing he may have had issues with it in the past. He's an incredibly eager and willing horse and I can't imagine he's ever been anything different. He's a bit of a hard keeper, and has the softest most intelligent amberish palomino eyes. If ANYONE thinks they may know anything about him at all, please let me know. He's an amazing, athletic, versatile representative for the breed and I'd love to know more about his past than the nothing I know now.

I think this is a better advert to link to - http://www.horseclicks.com/golden-boy-twh/horses/804047
Golden Boy TWH

Big Dan is a gentle giant! He can be led by just pulling on his mane (or shaking a feed bucket!) He is the first to the fence and loves to be bathed, groomed or just petted. You can trailer him by leading him by the halter and he almost falls asleep while being trimmed. He can be saddled without being tied and ground ties when you get off. But, when you throw your leg over the saddle, be ready to go! He is very quick and loves to work. He was used for a scout horse in field trials and was used to chase the dogs. He does well trail riding in small groups, but will always be in the lead. He does not run off with his rider, but has trouble standing still. He improves with each ride and is learning he doesn't have to run everywhere he goes! He is NOT for the beginner or intermediate rider, but an experienced horseman will love his pep and all day endurance! He is incredibly smooth and transitions easily between his rack and canter. Are there many Tennessee Walker breeders in the USA ?
It might be worth contacting the ones that specialise in breeding Palomino's and see if they can recognise your lad.
