Trailer Thefts

A recent trend is for trailers to be stolen to transport scrap metal, and when disposing of the metal the trailer is cut into metal chips all potentially within 24 hrs of the theft.

Please ensure that suitable steps are taken to secure trailers when not in use and preferably out of view in a secure building. Consideration should be given where possible to fitting steel shrouds around areas where padlocks are used limiting access for cutting tools.
For those of you living on a farm, also hot property just now are tractor counter-balance weights

Theft in Fife

Photos here - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... 151&type=1

In the early hours of Monday 23rd July 2012 at the Scottish Equestrian Centre, Cluny, Fife a number of thefts occurred. A number of vehicles were broken into and a quantity of fuel stolen along with a large amount of horse grooming equipment and other items. Also stolen at this time was a Ford Iveco horse box lorry, registration number W612XKJ. Attached are a number of images of the vehicle.

Any information regarding the above vehicle, or potential sightings can be forwarded to Fife Police on 0845 600 5702, for the attention of DC Colin Salmon, or by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Reference number CF0147230712

Suspicious Vehicles

*About 2230hrs on Saturday 11th August - Near to Cherrybank Nursery, Palacerigg Country Park, Cumbernauld - a silver Peugeot with partial registration number K60JD was seen sitting for a long time outside fields where coloured cobs were grazing. The field gates have had padlocks and chains cut in the past. The car was occupied by an adult male and female and younger child, when challenged they stated that were just admiring the horses. (SP-20120811-2824)

*About 1700hrs on Monday 13th August - Riggend Farm, Riggend, Airdrie - a report was received regarding 3 males acting suspiciously within a red Ford Transit van VRM ST55CNK. The vehicle was seen passing fields where horses were grazing a number of times throughout the day. (SP-20120813-1248)

It further transpires that both the silver Peugeot and Red Transit van have been sighted together and may be acting together for acts of theft.

Safety Information

Paul Buttercase PC472
Community Safety Officer, Cupar

On Tuesday a vehicle was stopped and subsequently the occupants were detected for Theft by Housebreakings at 2 domestic farm dwellings/rural properties and property recovered. Both these had occurred during the morning/early afternoon.

This highlights the fact that farmhouses and associated cottages/properties are identified as being unoccupied for the majority of the day.

If you are leaving your property unoccupied you may want to consider installing an autodialler intruder device. This is a single PIR movement detector that requires a landline telephone connection. You are able to program 3 telephone numbers into the device (ie your mobile, a friend/relatives mob/landline, another family member) and if the device is activated it telephones the numbers in turn until an answer is obtained and then warns that it has been activated.

These devices cost around £20-30 and are available online. They do not give the same coverage as a full house alarm as they only cover one room but are considerably cheaper and give you warning that there has been an activation.

There has also been a report of a theft of diesel from a vehicle on a farm and an adjacent insecure drum that has taken place overnight between Tues and Wed.

The above incidents have happened in the East Neuk area however as you will be aware similar incidents have occurred in other areas of NEF in recent months.

Hay set on Fire

*At 1830hrs on Sunday 12th August - Meikle Drumgray Farm, Greengairs, Airdrie - baled hay was set on fire within the fields as it was due to be uplifted
Ref: (SP20120812-1868)

Request from Police

Tayside Police would like to remind owners to check their field fencing as they are often being called to deal with escaped horses and ponies on main roads. Please take time to regularly walk the perimiter of your field, checking for loose wire, rails and broken posts. Check for areas where horses have been 'leaning' over, and if necessary use electric fencing to prevent this.

Donkey Foal Shot Dead

Police are investigating after a donkey foal was shot and killed in Lanarkshire.

The two-week-old animal was shot between the eyes on Wednesday 8 August at around 6.30pm. Owner Alan Green found the foal dead in a field. He has more than 20 horses at his farm in Glenboig.

Enquiries are ongoing. Strathclyde Police - Ref: SP2012 0808/1372

Sheep Shot

An incident has taken place in the past 2 days between Upper Largo and Largoward area where a number of sheep have been discovered by their owner having been shot which has resulted in several dying outright and others having to be destroyed.

Any livestock are obviously vulnerable whilst on grazing land or in fields. We would advise that anyone with livestock, particularly in remote areas make frequent checks where possible.

Anyone who may have any information that would help with this enquiry should contact Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 5702 and quote callcard FIFE-20120828-0252.
